Our glossary:

Hernia of intervertebra disk - decrease in intervertebra disk height is supported by development of pathology. Such disease arises from intervertebra disk rupture. Resulting hernia is stuck out backward and sideward, and presses down on the nerve-root at its output from spinal canal. Besides it may press down on spinal marrow and provoke inflammation, giving rise to edema. As a result, pains and sensory loss appear only in a day after onset of disease. The part of nerve, lying out of the point of hernia pressure, does not function in fact, resulting in abrupt desensitization and weakness in a leg.

Kyphosis - curvature of the spine with backward convexity. Such convexity may arise in any part of the spinal column. There is congenital and acquired kyphosis. It is characterized by round-shouldered and sway back. There is inherited predisposition (family types of bearing). Congenital kyphosis is concerned with anomaly due to hypoplasia of forepart of vertebras, having wedge-shaped form.

Torticollis - deformation of the neck, congenital or acquired, is characterized by malposition of head, i.e., lateral bending.

Lordosis - curvature of the spine with forward convexity, seespondylosis, spondylarthrosis, ankylosing spondylitis (Bechterew's-Strumpell's-Marie disease), Scheuermann-Mau disease and etc.

Bearing - habitual continuous and natural way of own body holding in space. Bearing abnormality in its frontal plane is characterized by a shift in the spine axis to the right or to the left of its middle position.

Osteochondrosis - such disease results in intervertebral disks deformation. Disks, subjected to the long-term overloads, suffer first of all, especially, due to uncomfortable static poses (laundering, weeding, etc). Maximum load, as a rule, falls at cervical and lumbar parts of the spine.

Scoliosis - constant sidewise curvature of the spine. Scoliosis is characterized not only by deformation of the spine and intervertebral disks; such disease has its own ethiology, pathogenesis, and distinctive clinical symptomatology. Scoliosis proceeds chronically. Scoliosis is sideways curvature of the spine.
